This program is designed to fit you with the flexibility to learn medical coding. our curriculum is certified thru the AAPC which allows you to work anywhere in the United States. Our curriculum also ensures a higher chance at passing the exam. We offer classes with a certified coding instructor.

What are the pre-qualifications to become a medical coder?

Virtual Medical Coding Academy only requires that you live in the United States, are 18 years and older, have a high school diploma or equivalent. Applicants will have to be able to pass a background check. If you have a criminal history involving drug offenses or sexual crimes will most likely be declined.
What are the differences between the CRC, CPB and CPC?

The Certified Professional Coder (CPC) course is for individuals who want to focus solely on medical coding. These individuals are learning only the CPT, ICD-10 and HCPCS application skills to become medical coders. The coders do not have to dispute claims, collect payments or even have patient contact like the billers do. These coders go on to make anywhere between 20 to 30 dollars an hour and have more of a chance at remote work. This course is about 5 to 6 months. The Certified Risk Adjustment (CRC) course is for individuals who want to be part coders or make their own hours. These individuals are focusing on one section of the coding books called the ICD-10-CM which is for diagnosis. Depending on the patient insurance you will have Risk Adjustment Scores (RAF) that you use depending on the diagnosis documented in the medical record. These coders also work from home and can be employed by hospitals and or insurance companies. People like to do the CRC because it is less coding that the CPC and you can still make the same amount as well as work from home. This course is about 2 months. The Certified Professional Billing (CPB) course is for individuals who want to become medical billers. This course will go over things such as claim forms, insurance plans, limited medical coding (not extensive), insurance rejection and denials. You will not be allowed to code with a CPB. You will fix errors on claims, call insurance companies for payment, as well as call patients for payments regarding the visits in question. You may not be able to find remote work as a biller however there are some remote billing jobs. This course is 3 to 4 months.
What is the CPC exam?

The Certified Professional Coding Exam is a 100 question multiple-choice test. You will 4 hours to complete your test. The exam is now included in the course. Upon completion and passing your test this course will send a Certificate of Completion accepted by the AAPC. You will need this certificate to remove a two- year apprentice behind your credentials. A Certificate of Completion will remove one- year from requirement.

Upon completion of the Certified Professional Coding exam and course, you will then have a representative from Virtual Medical coding Academy reach out to you. This representative will create a professional resume and help find your new career.
What is included in the course?

The course includes all books and workbooks. Students will have access to Blackboard which houses their coding course. All students will also receive a certificate of completion from the AAPC. We will assist with job leads and references in order to help you succeed.
